Grandfather Clocks Repairs & Sales

Have you always wanted a grandfather clock to add elegance and charm to your home or office? We love our grandfather clock selection at House of Clocks and think they are especially unique. With the largest selection of clocks in Northern California, we believe that we can provide the grandfather clock of your dreams! Our team also offers full repairs and restoration if you have a clock that needs repair or cleaning.

History of Grandfather Clocks

Grandfather clocks transpired around 1680 after the invention of several mechanical advances in time-keeping technology. Standing at a hefty six to eight feet tall, grandfather clocks are run by large, swinging pendulums. In order to keep the pendulum from swinging too wide, anchor escapements were created to maintain the swinging of the inner pendulums. This is why grandfather clocks are able to stand so tall and not too wide. They have been built the same way for over 400 years!

Grandfather Clock Maintenance

Grandfather clocks, like any other mechanical clocks, have to be well-oiled and maintained in order to function and keep time properly. House of Clocks offers oil change service for your grandfather clock. We also use the finest oils to ensure a top-quality repair.

After a clock is overhauled, we recommend changing the oil every 3-5 years for grandfather clocks. It is very important that a qualified clock repair person changes the oil as there are certain specifics that must be followed, such as using the right amount of oil and oiling in the correct places.

Grandfather Clock Overhaul

Grandfather clocks, just like cars, need regular maintenance and repair. Grandfather clocks last lifetimes and are definitely built to last. Our clock specialists recommend having your grandfather clock overhauled approximately every 20 years. This process is quite extensive but will keep your clocks running for decades more!

Our Process

Clock is completely stripped down
All parts of the clock are put through a cleaning process, then brought back to their originality
Movement is overhauled
Replace bushings
Polish pivots
Check for wear
Movement is cleaned again
